World Test Championship 2023-25: Points table, India & Australia WTC scenarios & final date
South Africa (best possible finish: 69.44%)
A 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka has seen South Africa climb to the top of the table.
The situation is easy for them – they only need to win one of their Tests against Pakistan to secure a place in the final.
Australia (best possible finish: 67.65%)
The win over India in the day-night second Test in Adelaide has kept Australia on track to reach the final.
Qualification remains in their own hands, with a 4-1, 3-1 or 3-2 series win over India guaranteeing a place in the final.
A 2-2 draw would mean they need to win one Test in Sri Lanka in the New Year, while a 3-2 defeat would mean they need a 2-0 win in Sri Lanka.
India (best possible finish: 64.04%)
Defeat in the second Test has made India’s task more difficult.
Only a 3-1 or 4-1 series win against Australia guarantees their place in the final.
A 3-2 win would mean they need Sri Lanka to at least draw a Test against Australia, while a 2-2 draw would mean they need Sri Lanka to win the series against Australia.
Sri Lanka (best possible finish: 53.85%)
Sri Lanka’s hopes are now almost over. They need to beat Australia 2-0 and hope a lot of other results go their way.
We are effectively into a three-horse race for two spots.
New Zealand, England, Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Indies are no longer in contention to reach the final.
But, of course, it is worth noting that it could all change again if any side is deducted points for a slow over-rate, as five teams have in this cycle, including both England and Australia during the 2023 Ashes.
