The incident occurred on Newbold Close/Bankside in Banbury near the Morrisons supermarket yesterday afternoon (Sunday, December 8).

One driver said: “A car is on fire at the bottom of Bankside at the Morrisons end.

“I would advise staying away, you can not pass, the flames are too big!”

Emergency services raced to the scene with a fire engine from Banbury Fire Station dispatched as firefighters dealt with the blaze within 35 minutes.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the incident is now being investigated by Thames Valley Police.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Firefighters attended a car fire at Newbold Close Banbury (Bankside).

“We sent one fire engine from Banbury. It was on scene at 3.52pm, they put out the fire using hose lines and breathing apparatus.

“They left the scene at 4.27pm.

“This incident is now with the police for investigation.”
