A would-be thief’s plans were cut short when Windsor police arrived in the middle of a break-in at an east-end residence and arrested a 29-year-old suspect.

Officers responded to a reported break-in at a home in the 1500 block of Rossini Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 5.

Police said the male suspect had unlawfully entered the home and was in the process of looting jewelry, money, and medical prescriptions, when the home’s occupant arrived and caught him in the act.

Officers who arrived at the scene first attempted to negotiate with the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside a bedroom.

When talks proved unsuccessful, police broke through the bedroom door, and after a brief struggle, arrested the suspect.

Police said one officer sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The suspect now faces changes of break-and-enter into a dwelling, resisting a peace officer, and failure to comply with a release order.

That same day, Toronto police arrested Damien Richards and Chelsea Adamache, who were wanted on outstanding warrants for a targeted shooting in Windsor’s west end near Partington Avenue and Algonquin Street on Jan. 30.

Windsor police now have five suspects in custody, and are searching for one more.

The outstanding suspect is described as a man in his thirties with a light complexion, about five feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, light eyes, a buzz cut, and strawberry blonde facial hair.
