Expect freezing rain Tuesday, Environment Canada says

Anyone who was in the Ottawa area for the 1998 ice storm likely feels a little uneasy every time the forecast calls for freezing rain.
And that’s exactly what was in Environment Canada’s forecast when it issued a special weather statement late Monday afternoon.
“Risk of freezing rain followed by significant rainfall and mild temperatures,” read the statement for the national capital area.

A rainfall total of 15 mm to 25 mm was expected, with a risk of freezing rain Tuesday night, followed by rain that would end Wednesday night.
“Temperatures may be below the freezing mark as the rain begins,” the weather agency said. “Temperatures should quickly rise above zero, and the rain will continue through Wednesday.”
Environment Canada warned that the significant rainfall, combined with melting snow and the limited ability of the frozen ground to absorb water, could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads.
