Late actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar leaves behind a legacy of iconic cinema deeply rooted in patriotism, emotion, and storytelling finesse. Here are 10 of his finest films that you should watch.

Upkar (1967)
A landmark film that earned Manoj Kumar the title “Bharat Kumar.” It contrasts Indian values with Western influence and celebrates the ideal of a selfless farmer-soldier. Written and directed by Manoj Kumar, the film was inspired by Indian prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri who suggested the actor-director to make a movie based on India’s motto ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’.

Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974)
A socially charged drama tackling unemployment, corruption, and dignity, with Manoj Kumar portraying the struggles of an honest man trying to support his family. The movie also has Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of Vijay, Bharat’s brother. ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’ was written, directed and produced by Manoj Kumar.
Shaheed (1965)
